Snapchat and TikTok recover accounts differently from Meta, and from each other. Most failed appeals fail because they were written for the wrong platform.
Snapchat
- A temporary lock usually follows a third-party app, a plugin, or too many sign-in attempts. It clears from accounts.snapchat.com after a wait, once the third-party app is removed.
- A permanent lock is a rules decision. It can be appealed, but once, and only with a reason that addresses the rule.
- If the account was taken over, change the password at accounts.snapchat.com first, then send a request through Snapchat support choosing that you think your account was compromised. Have the username, and the original email and phone number, ready.
- Abusive Snaps, Chats or accounts are reported inside the app: press and hold on the content, then tap Report.
TikTok
- A suspension is temporary and has a date. A ban is permanent unless appealed. The notification in the app tells you which, the Appeal button is inside it, and the appeal's status then shows in the app's Safety Center. If no appeal option appears, the web fallback is TikTok's Report a problem form.
- Appeal once, from the app, within the window given. Say which rule was applied, why it does not fit, and nothing else.
- Bans for suspected underage use need proof of age; the appeal asks for it.
- If the account was taken over, the route is Settings and privacy, then Report a problem, choosing the account access topic, with the original email and phone number. The same form exists on the web, under the same name.
What makes them stop reading
- Sending the same appeal five times. Each one restarts the queue.
- Long stories, threats, and mentions of lawyers. The reviewer wants the rule and the reason.
- Recovery services that spam the form on your behalf. Platforms recognise them, and the account is marked.
What I do differently
The right route, the right evidence, sent once, and then followed up through the channels that exist for exactly this. Where the grounds are not there, I say so before you spend anything.
Send me the username, which platform, and what the notification says, and I tell you whether this is an unlock, an appeal or a recovery.
